Client Testimonials
In Their Own Words
Wei Lin Goh
Senior Executive, Bishan
I came in not entirely sure how my SRS contributions and parent relief claims interacted with each other. The adviser walked through each element methodically and the written summary they provided was genuinely useful — I referred to it when filing my return the following month. It was a practical session, not a sales pitch.

As a UK national working in Singapore, I had questions about my residency status and whether certain UK income was assessable here. The session clarified the position thoroughly. The adviser was careful not to overstate what the law says, which I appreciated — the report distinguished clearly between settled positions and areas requiring judgment.

We were approaching the GST registration threshold and wanted to understand the implications before we had to register. The compliance health check identified a few areas in our invoicing process that needed attention. Not issues we were aware of — which is exactly why the exercise was worthwhile. The process was efficient and the report was clear.

We engaged Rambutan Legal to review our holding structure ahead of bringing in a new investor. The corporate tax advisory identified that our group relief claims had not been fully optimised, and the recommendations on our intercompany service fees were directly actionable. Fixed-fee engagement made it easy to get board approval — no open-ended billing.

I had not previously sought formal tax advice and was unsure whether it was worth the cost for a sole proprietor. It was. The adviser identified deductions I had not claimed previously and helped me understand the distinction between my employment income from a previous job and my consulting fees. The written summary is something I now file with my tax records each year.

Our company started providing SaaS services to overseas clients and we were uncertain whether the reverse charge mechanism applied to us. The GST advisory addressed this specifically, including the transition rules that applied to our billing cycle. The adviser was direct about what was settled law and what required a judgment call — that distinction was useful for our finance team.

Selected Engagement Summaries
The following summaries describe the nature of specific engagements. Client names and identifying details have been generalised.
Challenge
Expatriate Returning from Extended Overseas Assignment
A Singapore citizen returning after four years working in the UK was uncertain about whether any overseas income remained assessable in Singapore, and how to correctly declare her employment income in the transitional year.
Advisory Provided
We reviewed the client's residency timeline, assessed her income sources in the transition year, and applied the relevant provisions of the Income Tax Act to establish which income was assessable. We also identified the applicable reliefs for the year in question.
The written report included a timeline of her residency status and a structured summary of the assessable income figure with supporting statutory references.
Outcome
The client filed her return with a clear understanding of the basis for each figure. She subsequently referred a colleague with a similar overseas assignment background.
Challenge
Family-Owned Group Reviewing Holding Structure Before Succession
A family-owned manufacturing group with three operating companies and a holding entity was planning for succession and wished to understand whether their current structure was tax-efficient and whether any adjustments were advisable before a change in directorship.
Advisory Provided
We reviewed the corporate structure, intercompany management fee arrangements, and the group's use — or non-use — of group relief provisions. We also assessed the holding company's income position and the withholding tax implications of dividend flows.
The written advisory identified two areas where the group's existing arrangements did not reflect current IRAS guidance, and outlined specific steps to regularise these positions.
Outcome
The group implemented the recommended adjustments to its intercompany documentation and management fee methodology ahead of the directorship transition. The adviser was subsequently engaged for the GST compliance review of one of the operating companies.
Challenge
E-Commerce Business Preparing for Voluntary GST Registration
An online retailer selling primarily to Singapore-based consumers was considering voluntary GST registration to enable input tax recovery on its substantial import costs. The business had not previously navigated GST and was uncertain about the implications of registration.
Advisory Provided
The compliance health check assessed the business's supply mix, import VAT position, and the likely input tax recovery profile after registration. We addressed the reverse charge on imported digital services the business was using, and prepared the registration application together with a compliance framework document.
The written report included a summary of the net GST position under registration, identifying the quarterly reporting obligations and the internal process changes required.
Outcome
The business registered voluntarily within six weeks of the engagement. The net input tax position improved the business's cash flow meaningfully. The compliance framework document was used to train the finance team on GST return preparation.
